On November 21, 2025, the first IFPE symposium on “Plant-based nutrition – innovative and health-promoting or risky?” will take place in Kassel, Germany. There is now scientific consensus that a diet with a high proportion of whole plant-based foods is health-promoting and sustainable. Nevertheless, there are still uncertainties regarding the health benefits and potential risks, especially with a vegan diet.
In order to discuss these and other current topics, we have been able to gather renowned experts in their respective fields as speakers.
These include
- Prof. Dr. Lukas Schwingshackl (Prevention through plant-based nutrition – how robust is the evidence?)
- Prof. Dr. Andreas Michalsen (Therapy of metabolic diseases through plant-based nutrition in clinical practice)
- Dr. Markus Keller (New critical nutrients in plant-based nutrition?)
- Oec. troph. Edith Gätjen (Advice on vegan family nutrition)
- Prof. Dr. Sarah Kühl (Consumer acceptance of alternative protein sources)
- Dr. Jörg Hinrichs (Alternative protein sources 3.0)
A panel discussion on the necessity, acceptance and health effects of alternative protein sources will round off the program.
Further information and registration can be found here.

Please note that the entire symposium will be held in German.
