Vision

As our concept of “wholefood nutrition” or “sustainable nutrition” has become a guideline for many players in science, education, consulting and politics over decades, the vision of our network of experts is to further adapt the concept to the latest findings and to implement it more intensively.

Goals

With our activities, we want to contribute to the “World Action Program on Education for Sustainable Development” (WAP ESD) – and thus to the achievement of the “UN Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs) of the “Agenda 2030”. We aim to make a substantial contribution to motivating and transforming society towards sustainability.

Target groups

The activities are aimed at various stakeholders in education, science, business, politics, NGOs and the media and thus promote the desired transformation of society towards sustainability.

Activities

  • Futher scientific development of the concept “wholefood nutrition” and “sustainable nutrition” (UGB-D, AGNE, Ifane/IFPE)
  • – Continuous updating of the so-called “Giessen School”
    – Compilation of a good argumentation
  • Development of concepts for implementation/application (UGB-D, AGNE, Ifane/IFPE)
    – Development of a concept for an effective switch to a sustainable diet as quickly as possible
    – Experimenting and trying out suitable concepts
    – Exchange of experience
    – Development of suitable pedagogical materials for educational work
  • Multiplier training (UGB D-A-CH, AGNE, Ifane/IFPE)
  • Nutritional education for consumers (FvfB, SZFSB)
  • Mutual referral for external speaker requests (UGB-D, AGNE, Ifane/IFPE)
  • Learning location with whole-institution approach (UGB in SZFSB)
    – Advice and support for other learning venues

Information about the partner-institutions

The partner institutions work together on sustainability in the field of nutrition. Current network coordinators and spokespersons are Thomas Männle from UGB-Germany and Dr. Karl v. Koerber from AGNE.

Association for Independent Health Counseling - Germany (Verband für unabhängige Gesundheitsberatung - Deutschland, UGB-D)

Since 1981, the UGB has been imparting information on wholefood and sustainable nutrition to experts, intermediaries and interested consumers via its UGB Academy. In the meantime, over 3,000 people have obtained certificates from the UGB Academy.

Awarded as an “Official Project of the UN World Decade of Education for Sustainable Development”: Implementation of the guiding principle of sustainability in the area of nutrition and further dissemination of sustainable nutrition:

In 2018/2019, the UGB received the award as a “Learning Place” as part of the “UNESCO World Action Program on Education for Sustainable Development”.

Support association for fair advising (Förderverein fair beraten, FvfB)

It was founded in 2011 and its aim is to create a network of advisors who provide consumers with fair, neutral and independent advice. Product sales and company recommendations are excluded.

Working Group on Sustainable Nutrition (Arbeitsgruppe Nachhaltige Ernährung e.V., AGNE)

The Working Group has been active in the field of sustainable nutrition and education for sustainable development in German-speaking countries and beyond since 1998. Its activities cover the three fields of teaching, research and knowledge transfer. These include teaching assignments for students, training and further education activities for intermediaries, advice for institutions and publications for scientists, multipliers and lay people.

Awarded as an ‘Official Project of the UN World Decade of Education for Sustainable Development’: Implementation of the guiding principle of sustainability in the area of nutrition and further dissemination of sustainable nutrition

Teaching material listed by the German UNESCO Commission and recognized as a ‘Contribution to the UN World Decade of ESD’: ‘Nachhaltig genießen – Rezeptbuch für unsere Zukunft’ (German for ‘Sustainable enjoyment – recipe book for our future’).

An Online Video Course ‘Nachhaltigkeit in der Ernährung’ (German for ‘Sustainability in Nutrition’) was recognized by the UN program ‘Sustainable Food Systems’ as an ‘Affiliated Project’.

Association for Independent Health Counseling - Austria (Verein für unabhängige Gesundheitsförderung - Österreich, UGB-A)

UGB-Austria was founded in 1992 in response to the clear demand for the holistic concept of wholefood nutrition in Austria. This is an independent association that pursues the same goals as UGB Germany.

Association for Independent Health Counseling - Switzerland (Verein für unabhängige Gesundheitsförderung - Schweiz, UGB-CH)

UGB-Switzerland was founded in 2001 in response to the clear demand for the holistic concept of wholefood nutrition in Switzerland and  from abroad. This is an independent association that pursues the same goals as UGB Germany.

Seminar center fünfseenblick GmbH (Seminarzentrum fünfseenblick GmbH, SZFSB)

The company SZFSB was added in 2013: Here, the concept of wholefood and sustainable nutrition is consistently implemented for all guests (seminar participants and holidaymakers). The organic buffet restaurant serves sustainable food, mainly from the region and partly from the hotel’s own certified organic garden.

Research Institute for Plant-Based Nutrition (Forschungsinstitut für pflanzenbasierte Ernährung, IFPE)

Since 2010, the institute has been working on the topics of vegetarianism, alternative diets and sustainable nutrition from a nutritional science and nutritional ecology perspective. As an independent research and consulting institute, it is committed to the scientifically based conception of a health-promoting, plant-based and sustainable diet and its dissemination in society.
