Duration: March 2024 to June 2024
Project description:
Due to the current high level of interest in choline, arachidonic acid, taurine and creatine in the context of a vegan diet, the Research Institute for Plant-Based Nutrition (IFPE) would like to develop scientifically sound recommendations for action on the substances mentioned. These substances are either present in plant-based foods in only small quantities or are practically non-existent. It is therefore of great interest to analyse the potential health effects (advantages/disadvantages) of increasing the intake of these substances (e.g. via food supplements) on the basis of the studies to date. In addition to general recommendations for vegans, the focus will be on risk groups such as pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and children, as far as this is possible based on the current data situation. A German fact sheet/handout will be made available to all interested parties as part of the project. The results of this research will also be published in an English article (peer-reviewed and PubMed-indexed) in order to further advance the scientific discussion on these substances and their research.
